Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA)with the support ofCity of Toronto and our media sponsor OMNI TV proudly presents its first annual “Toronto Mela” on the 25th of August 2012 at Albert Campbell Square (located outside Scarborough Town Centre RT Station). Toronto Mela 2012 is an attempt to gather South Asians communities to rejoice the cultural diversity in Toronto. This event is expected to gather thousands of residents across the GTAto celebrate a wonderful evening of South Asian cultural dance, music, performing arts, and delicious cuisine. In addition, manyvendors are participating in the Toronto Mela 2012 to promote their products and services to the attendees.

 

CASSA is anon-profit umbrella organizationof South Asians that has been advocating for social and economic justice in Ontario since 1988.

 

            For the first time, CASSA plans to host a South Asian Summer Festival to recognize the diversity within South Asians and to celebrate our contributions to Canada.  Toronto Mela 2012will feature South Asian cultural dance, music,and other artistic performances from 12pm to 5pm. Each hour is allocated exclusively to language and culture centric performances including Tamil, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, and Bengali. South Asians Get Ready for the First Annual Toronto Mela; A South Asian Summer Fest in Scarborough

Toronto, ON.Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA) prepares to host over a thousand South Asians at the first annual Toronto Mela: A South Asian Summer Fest. The festival will celebrate the South Asian cultural heritage while simultaneously linking South Asian residents of Scarborough with various relatable services such as, settlement services, employment and educational opportunities, and health services. The many vendors at theMela include both for profit and non-profit organizations. Additional features include on stage entertainment with popular performing artists and art and historydisplays.

 

Toronto Mela 2012 will be held on Saturday, August 25th from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. at Albert Campbell Square (beside Scarborough Town Centre). Over a thousand attendees from the South Asian communities and the wider GTA communities are expected along with elected representatives, leaders of community organizations, media representatives and service sector professionals.

 

Toronto Mela has gained a few sponsorships. We would like to announce LIUNA Local 183 as a Gold Sponsor and Printfast as a Bronze Sponsor. Their sponsorships will make the Mela that much more possible.
